After you register
- Get a CRA Business Number.
- Register for GST (5%). No provincial sales tax in Alberta.
- WCB Alberta registration if you have employees in eligible industries.
- Choose accounting software.
Alberta-specific notes
- 5% GST only. No PST or HST. Simplifies sales-tax accounting significantly.
- Authorized Service Providers handle filings - there’s no direct-to-government online portal. Use an online incorporator or visit a registry agent.
- Annual Return filed via a registry agent each year.
- Combined CCPC rate on the first $500,000 of active business income is among the lowest in Canada (federal 9% + Alberta 2% = 11%).
- No EHT. Alberta has no Employer Health Tax.
